THE PERMANENT WAY - No. 2

"Relaying half a mile of track in 2000"

60lb Rail and fittingsNear Col. Robertsons Bridge

A nearly straight half mile of track relaying this spring from the Banwy bridge to the kink. Second hand rail from South Africa allowed us to recover original W&L good 1902 45lb rail for use elsewhere on the line. Here we see the fittings, the base plates are angled at 1 in 20 and the screws are waiting to be driven in. Also the new Jarrah sleepers from Australia. In this shot you can see the girders of Col. Robos bridge have been cleaned and repainted. If you can see the rails have the marks "BS 80 H C O B KRUPP VII 1927 S.A.R. IND 5216" including the British Standard kite mark!

LEFT- Col. Robertson's bridge after refurbishing, but before sleepers were fixed to the girders. RIGHT- The steamy mess coach with cheery management and workers trying not to spill too much tea as the works train "speeds" them to the work site for another hard days work on the track!
