"Tamper Heaven"
April 2000 and the "new" tamper ("Terrance") completed the winters tamping near the "kink" (between Cyfronydd and Heniarth.
This former South African machine proved it's worth when it completed nearly half a mile of track, relayed this winter, between the kink and the Banwy bridge.
On the left the hydraulic ram lifting the track with the clamp on the rail and on the right the tamper arms packing the sleeper.
"Terrance" the tamper waiting in the loop at Cyfronydd for "The Earl" to pass with the morning train on Friday 14th April 2000. After the section is cleared the works train enters the Heniarth section to complete ballasting, leveling and packing prior to the busy Easter weekend
